The dock has been closed and condemned, its place re-imagined as part of the restoration project of Jericho Beach. But I grew up here. For 15 years, this place was a landmark in my understanding of where and who I was, and am. It's interesting how painful it can be to be restricted from going to a place that defines you - think about that when you approach any conversation about land claims and rights. Only one event really occurred on this dock - once, probably when I was 7 or 8, my dad and I went fishing off of it. We accidentally caught a mud shark (dog fish) - it ripped my line. For me, that was pretty exciting.
